Bye bye, diapers?

When Zoe was little, we weren’t in a real rush to potty-train her. (We wanted her to be out of, or close to being out of, diapers by the time Avery was born, but that wound up being a fairly easy target.) It took me by surprise, then, when Avery expressed an early interest in the potty. About a month ago, she started mimicking Zoe’s actions in bathroom (sitting on the toilet, grabbing and “using” pieces of toilet paper), and she has actually used the potty several times, including twice yesterday, since.

(I guess this is the classic example of second children doing things earlier than the first.)

I have no experience with training a child this young (the tricks that worked with a talking 2.5-year-old wouldn’t fly with a 1.5-year-old one), but I’ve been asking around for tips and been, as one friend suggested, just going with it. Perhaps if I let Avery lead the way, and nature take it course, we’ll be rewarded with a diaper-free house sooner than I had planned!
