At the aquarium

When I asked Zoe what she wanted to do over our two-week winter break, she suggested we go to the Monterey Aquarium. A quick look back at this blog showed me that we hadn’t visited in more than three years, so it seemed like a good idea. We headed down on Christmas Eve Day and, as we predicted, it was relatively empty. But even better than the lack of crowds was how much fun the girls had. Avery, who had just turned two during our last visit, had no recollection of being there, so she was seeing things through brand-new eyes. She loved the touch pools (the squishy sea cucumber was her favorite animal there) and the various exhibits (especially the jellies). And Zoe was particularly into a detective game for kids and into the sea otters (which she declared as her favorite new animal – sorry, hippos). We’re already planning our next visit back!
