Morning at the playground

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

It had been awhile since Zoe last got together with her friend Zander, so she was especially excited to meet him at the playground today. The two of them ran around and did all sorts of playing, while us moms caught up (with, of course, coffees in hand) and our babies, who are three months apart, happily slept. A fun morning for all!

At the doctor’s

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I could be the only person in the world who gets sentimental over going to the doctor – and I did, indeed, feel a bit sad when at my 6-week postnatal check-up today. This is likely the last appointment I’ll have there, and I felt emotional when thinking of all that has transpired over the last few months. (The last time I was in that office, little Avery was still in my stomach!) I said as much to one of the nurses, who wisely pointed out that this isn’t just the end of something – but also the beginning. She’s right, of course, and I have tons of things – with both Avery and Zoe – to look forward to. (And the truth is, I’m pretty happy about no longer being pregnant!)

Speaking of doctor’s appointments, Avery also had one on Friday. She had to have her platelets checked again (they were nice and high, as was expected), and also got weighed. She’s up to 11 lbs, 8 oz. and is in the 95 percentile for both weight and height. As I told Q, I think we’re incapable of having small babies!

Little Learners Bear Day

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Zoe and I haven’t been to Little Learners since Avery has been born. So we were very excited to head to the zoo yesterday for bear day. We learned all about bears, got to create our very own spectacled bear, went to visit them in the zoo, and Zoe even got to ride one! The best part was when Zoe saw the pool in the bear den, she asked where the bears’ swimsuits were. Very cute!

City girl

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

It’s sometimes a challenge to find parking in San Francisco, and Zoe and I have logged many, many looking-for-a-spot miles in the car together. The two (well, actually, three) of us were searching for a spot the other day, when Zoe suddenly piped up from the backseat. “Is there no parking, Mommy?” she asked. And later, when I found a spot and was starting to pull in, she made me smile by asking, “Can we fit?” There are moments when it’s clear to me that Zoe is very much a city girl – and this was certainly one of them!
