How many weeks…?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

While sitting and waiting at my doctor’s appointment yesterday morning, another patient came in with her toddler son. “How far along are you?” she was asked by the receptionist, and I watched as the woman scrunched up her nose and paused before answering, “26 or 27 weeks, something like that.” She wasn’t alone: when I had checked in a few minutes prior I, too, had to pause and calculate my week. While I knew the status of my first pregnancy to the exact day, I’ve consistently lost track with this one – and I’m pretty sure it has something to with being too busy with another kid to dwell on the pregnancy. (And it’s likely the same thing for that other mom.) What I can’t help but dwell on, though, is how fast it’s all gone! How can 33 weeks (yes, it’s 33) have slipped by so quickly??

Bowling!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Our friend Fink celebrated his birthday with a bowling party yesterday, and Zoe was invited. She had a lot of fun scoring the game and throwing balls down the lane with her dad – she even got a strike! – and her afternoon was capped off with an air hockey game (her first) with Uncle Dan and Jenny. To quote one of my fave movies, “Old School,” it was “actually a pretty nice little [Sunday].”

Zoe makes a call

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

When Zoe gets bored sometimes she picks up her phone and gives her friends a call – today it was Uncle Dan and Jenny. We didn’t catch the whole conversation, but did get the end. She is a very busy girl.

A quick rest

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Before Zoe drove Safta and PopPop to the airport yesterday, she decided to take a quick nap with her baby – and PopPop thought it would be fun to join them. Here are a few pics.

Dirty toes

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Several people have seen this already, but I still thought it would be fun to post a video of Zoe inspecting her toes. She kind of reminds me of a little monkey – if, that is, monkeys could say things like “P-U” after picking at themselves!

…And hi, PopPop!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Safta wasn’t Zoe’s only visitor: yesterday, PopPop flew into town. Here are some pics of the two of them hanging around last night, and “shaving” this morning.

Good morning, Safta!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Though her Safta arrived in town yesterday, Zoe didn’t get to spend a lot of time with her – so she was quite excited when she woke up and realized Safta was still here! She showered her with kisses and stuck right by her side for most of the morning – even when Safta had to shower. Zoe just pulled up a chair in the bathroom and patiently waited for her (and I grabbed the camera).

Splish, splash

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Yesterday afternoon, as Q and I were discussing (debating?) whose turn it was to give Zoe a bath, we heard the sound of a door opening and water running. Startled, we looked up at one another and then rushed to the guest bathroom, where Zoe had turned on the faucet in the tub. (Obviously she had heard the word “bath” and made a beeline for the bathroom.) She was jumping up and down next to the tub and laughing, clearly proud of herself for starting the bath – something she had never done on her own before.

I guess I underestimate the level of Zoe’s comprehension, because I was floored that she did this. (I know she understands basic questions/directions, but it’s not like we asked her to turn on the water. We weren’t, in fact, even talking to her!) I gave her a stern little lecture about the importance of waiting for Mommy and Daddy to turn on the water and get in the bath (I’ve always been spooked by stories of kids drowning in the bathtub), but the truth is: I was pretty proud of her, too.

Festival fun

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

One of the best parts of living in San Francisco is the weekly street festivals, which start in the spring and continue right into the summer/early fall. This weekend’s was in Glen Park, a neighborhood fairly close to ours, and the three of us met up at the festival with Zander, Xavier (just 6 weeks old) and his parents. There was lots to do and see, but Zoe’s favorite things seemed to be holding hands with Zander and making a new canine friend with her dad. Here are some pics.

Another first…

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Zoe had her first dentist appointment yesterday morning, and I think I was more nervous than she was! Q came along (mostly, I think, because he was so excited) – and the two of them wound up sitting together and watching Monsters Inc. while Zoe experienced her first cleaning. Though it took a bit of time for her to open up her mouth for the dentist , she was a good little patient overall. (As Q commented to me, it’s easy to forget sometimes that she’s only two!) And I’m sure what she was most excited about was the toothbrush, stickers, autographed picture and other treats she was sent home with!

So cute (part 2)

Friday, April 24th, 2009

As Michelle wrote in a previous post Zoe really liked her new drapes. We finally got around to posting the video we caught of her excitement. I can honestly say she is so cute…
