“Dude”

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Have you seen that Bud Light TV commercial where the guy says “dude” again and again? He uses that one word to get his point across in a variety of situations (when he wants a co-worker to stop making so much noise, when he scolds someone for cutting in line in front of him at the movies, etc.), and the commerical always makes me laugh. Lately, it’s also reminded me of Zoe – who is a big fan of using just one word to express herself. Her word isn’t “dude,” but “mommy,” and she spends a good amount of time walking around the house saying it over and over again. In her case, “mommy” is not only a way to greet me, but also (and more commonly) a way to say, “I’m having fun,” “I’m hungry,” “I’m bored,” or even “Hi, Daddy.” It’s definitely one of her favorite words, and I must admit: I never get tired of hearing it!

Game Day

Monday, January 21st, 2008

So, the outcome of yesterday’s game – needless to say – was quite unfortunate. BUT at least Zoe had a good time watching the game and hanging out with friends. Here are some pictures of our day – pre-overtime, of course.

Go, Pack, go!

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

It’s a big day for the Green Bay Packers, and Zoe is joining her mom (and relatives in Wisconsin) in cheering for them today. I think pink flatters her more than green and gold, but she’s having fun sporting this cute outfit from her Grandma and Grandpa! (Hopefully it will bring luck to the Pack.)

Check out Zoe with her dog and baby, which just happen to be her favorite words to say these days…

Busy “B”

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

It’s been a busy past few days for Zoe, who has been:

-hanging out in her new butterfly tent…

-playing window peek-a-boo with her dad…

-giving hugs to her “baby” and dog…

In other words – just business as usual!

Walking, talking little girl

Friday, January 18th, 2008

So, just a few minutes ago, Zoe was walking around her room, cradling her “baby” and little dog (her two current favorite toys) and saying, “Ma-ma, ma-ma, ma-ma, ma-ma.” It was terribly fun to see (though nearly impossible to snap a picture of), and it reminded me yet again: Zoe is no longer a little baby!

Flashback

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Just for fun, I thought I would post a picture of Zoe from one year ago – and compare it to a picture from this week. If it weren’t for the striped pants and the little pot-belly (which has only gotten rounder with time), I might have a hard time believing this was the same person! A year makes quite a difference, doesn’t it??

Wakka, walka, walk-ahh…

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

For those of you who cannot get enough of Zoe walking, check out our latest video below. This was taken a few days ago and she is getting better every day. On Sunday, we went out for breakfast and I let her walk to the table. It was like everyone stopped eating at the same time to check out our little toddler…very cute…

Zoe and her buddies

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

As mentioned many times before, Zoe and I get together with our friends Polly (and Miles) and Susan (and Zander) about once a week. During our last get-together, on Friday, us moms were marveling over how big our “babies” have gotten. They really are like little people now, aren’t they??

New tricks

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Zoe has done all sorts of new things this weekend. Ever since coming home from daycare on Thurs., she’s been walking up a storm – and she’s getting really good at staying up and going long distances. Her dad also taught her a new party trick yesterday: when you ask, “where’s your foot?” she lifts up her foot and smiles. (When she did it for the first time, we screamed in excitement. You would have thought she had just won the Nobel Prize or something!) And this morning, while playing with one of her stuffed animals, she said another word for the first time. “Dog.”

I can’t wait to see what she does *next* week!

Dirty little secret

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

I’m not a big fan of bathing Zoe. It’s not that I don’t like having a clean, fresh-looking Zoe around (I do!); it’s just that the whole process is a bit of a grind. (There are just so many steps: take off Zoe’s diaper and clothes, head to the bathroom, fill up the bath with water and toys, clean Zoe, dry Zoe, head back to the bedroom, put on Zoe’s diaper and clothes again, etc.) I *do* bathe Zoe, of course, but I must admit I don’t look forward to doing so.

Regardless of my bathtime issues, I can certainly appreciate how cute Zoe looks when she’s being cleaned. So next time I start dreading the thought of giving Zoe another bath, I should probably just watch the short video below. It’s from last weekend, when PopPop was here, and it’s enough to make anyone want to plunk Zoe in the water and start scrubbing (and playing) away!

Happy Birthday, Daddy – Part II

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

When I picked up Zoe at daycare tonight, Elena commented that she was doing a lot of walking. I brought her home and plunked her in front of Q, and – sure enough – she started walking all over the place. I’m fairly certain that Zoe decided that walking (for real) would be the ideal present for her dad… So (again): Happy Birthday, Q! (And for the rest of you, check out the video we just took.)

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Today is Q’s birthday, and Zoe is quite excited about it. (She’s high-fiving her dad about it below.) Q and Zoe are like two peas in a pod (he’s pretty much her favorite person in the world), and Zoe is hoping her dad has the best day ever!

Our little Curly Q

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I have about a million memories of giving birth, and one of my most vivid involves a comment about Zoe’s hair. Just before I actually delivered, my nurse told us that she could see the baby’s head – and it looked like we would be having a curly, black-haired little girl. I was so excited to hear that “Sesame” was going to take after Q, and I was a tad surprised when, once in the outside world, Zoe’s hair was actually straight and brown.

Well, it turns out the nurse was only half wrong. One year later, Zoe’s hair (while still light brown) is actually quite curly – and it gets more so the older she gets. (And when it’s wet, she really looks like her dad. See below for the evidence.) I’m sure her hair will continue to change, and my new (totally shallow) hope is that Zoe winds up with blonde curls. I think that would suit her well!

More family time

Monday, January 7th, 2008

So, Safta and Pop Pop headed home this morning. We were sad to see them go (our house is so quiet now!), but we were glad they had so many fun moments with Zoe. Below are some pics from the past few days.
